Loses Poker Stars Sponsorship
Many are shocked to learn that the North American Poker Tour has lost the sponsorship of Poker Stars. This came at the same time that there was to be a tournament at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles From March 5th through the 12th.
Representatives say it will go on as planned but not with the Poker Stars backing anymore.
This was only able to be done though after long discussions with the California gaming regulators. The name has been changed to the Big Event and will involve a $5,000 buy in with two different start dates. The first one will be March 5th. The overall structure of the event is going to remain the same.
The players in this tournament have been notified of the change but it doesn't seem to really matter to them. In the long run they are just excited about the possibility of coming into the tournament and walking away the winner. They love the game of poker and they have been waiting to get the games started.
Players were also informed that Poker Stars representatives are still going to be on hand to assist them. That is important so that they can stay focused on the game and not have to worry about any problems arising.
The pressure is on though for the Big Event to be very successful. Some worry that without the sponsorship of Poker Stars it will be extremely difficult.
Others though are positive that they will have a very successful tournament and that this could turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
How branding of this event will play out in the future is still up in the air. Organizers are working hard to make sure everything goes off this time around without any problems. Then they can start working on a game plan for next year.
It is believed that opposite opinions about the online gaming regulations in congress play a role in the decision for Poker Stars to back out of the sponsorship.
Yet both parties seem to be staying quiet so only time will tell if all of the details are made public about what unraveled the deal.
ESPN was to host coverage of the Big Event but now that Poker Stars isn't sponsoring them anymore they will only be covering a portion of it. Those that are disappointed that they can't watch all of it on TV though can catch all of the action online as previous planned.
