Learning the Basics of Playing Poker
Though a very appealing card game, playing Poker requires aggressive strategies and different skills best performance. There are several Poker games and a player needs to understand the basics of those games to play. Brief descriptions of the basics of different Poker games are given below:
Texas Hold'em: Consisting of four betting rounds, Texas Hold'em allows two hole cards (face down) for each player and five face up cards (community cards) which are distributed for the use of all the participants. The player with the highest 5-card Poker hand is declared the winner.
Omaha: One version of Texas Hold'em is known as Omaha Hi. The minimum number of gamblers allowed is 2 and the maximum allowed is 10. Consisting of 4 betting rounds, each player receives 4 hole cards and 5 community cards are distributed for the use of all the participants. Each participant needs to make best 5-card Poker hand by joining exactly 2 hole cards with 3 (face up) community cards.
Omaha Hi-Lo: Omaha Hi-Lo or Omaha 8 is a variation of Omaha Hi and follows the same basic structure of Omaha Hi. The players here can make either best high 5-card Poker hand or best low 5-card Poker hand.
Seven Card Stud: This Poker game allows a maximum of 8 players and a minimum of 2 players. The game includes 1 initial bet and then 5 rounds of betting follows. In this Seven Card Stud game, 3 hole cards are given to each player and 4 community cards are provided for everyone to use. Creation of best 5-card Poker hand is the main objective of the players in the game.
Stud 8: This game is a variation of "Seven Card Stud" and is also known as Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo. The target is to make either best high 5-card Poker hand or best low 5-card Poker hand.
Five Card Draw: In this game, the maximum number of players allowed is 5 and the minimum allowed is 2. This is Poker game, 1 initial bet is followed by two rounds of betting. The players will get 5 hole cards and they may either receive 5 substitute cards or get rid of those 5 cards after the initial round of betting. At showdown, the player with top 5-card Poker hand will be the winner.
Though the games may look easy but they are not because it requires psychological and mathematical skills and need to be disciplined and must have the ability to take risk.
